Murmurations
Porcelain, Kozo paper, silk thread, glass beads, gold leaf fingerprint 6’ x 6’
In a time when much of humanity is focused on helping to heal our world. I find great inspiration in the grace and unity found in observing murmurations of starlings. While the birds are each one unique and with their own individual thoughts, they have the ability to move through space as one gestalt. This cooperation comes with such a high level of precision and harmony. While this piece was inspired by the murmurations of starlings, it represents the the uniqueness and potential the harmony of individuals. There are over 200 pieces of porcelain, each hanging from its own silk thread and able to turn on its own 350 degree axis. A gold leaf fingerprint marks each piece that is made from Japanese Kozo paper dipped in porcelain. The transparency and fragility the porcelain calls attention to the delicate strength of the human spirit. This transparent material illuminates and reflects white light which is the culmination of all colors.
